Prepare to be Challenged
An extremely disheartening 26% of apps are never revisited after their first use. Meanwhile, another 25% are never even opened at all. Perhaps the most discouraging statistic of them all, however, is that the average Android app loses a whopping 77% of its daily active users within just three days of installation. After 30 days, that number jumps up to 90%.
What these numbers illustrate (quite clearly) is that the overwhelming majority of mobile applications just aren’t that interesting. Although, it is important to note that part of that reality can be attributed to the sheer number of applications on the market. As of March 2017, there were more than 6.5 million apps available across the top 5 app stores. With such an overwhelming glut of apps, and the relative ease with which one can get their app hosted on a marketplace, it isn’t particularly surprising that so much disengagement exists.
Still, even when accounting for this effect, mobile app users are an exceptionally unforgiving bunch. According to a recent survey from Dynatrace, the majority of users expect their apps to load in 2 seconds or less. Apps that don’t meet those expectations are more likely to be deleted or abandoned. Meanwhile, only 16% of users are willing to give a buggy app more than two chances to properly launch.
